Wear parts for the cement industry are required at the time of high hardness, high abrasion resistance and enough strength and toughness (typical parts such as hammer head, plate, steel ball, roller, etc.), and the natural property of elemental metal often difficult to achieve "hard but not brittle" and "gentleness" conflicting requirements. Can a component have extremely high hardness and abrasion resistance in the anti-wear area, while the base part has extremely high toughness and reliability? It seems to be difficult. Interestingly, often high hardness, high wear resistant materials are mostly composed of expensive high alloy, but generally most ductile material or plastic material is cheap "base" of the metal, so in the implementation with good wear-resistant parts of "gentleness" at the same time with the economy, not kill two birds with one stone. Composite materials are based on this requirement.
Modern composite materials is defined as: by two or more different chemical properties or different organizational structure of the material, through different process methods, in the form of micro and macro synthetic multiphase materials, is the composite materials. Composite materials are polyphase structures, a class of components (or phases) as the matrix, and the other component (or phase) as the enhancement phase. Although the details of the composite materials are different, the main points are the same: one is to contain two or more different components, and the other is the excellent performance that each component does not have.
